Plan limit reached
The upgrade dialog appeared instead of your new track or album. What it means and every way out.
Symptom: you try to add a track, album, or Tracklist and instead of the editor you get a dialog: "You're now on the [plan] plan. This plan has a limit of N tracks. Please upgrade…"
Cause
Your catalog is at your plan's cap for that item type. Limits apply at creation time only: existing items are never touched, never unpublished, never deleted. The dialog names the exact plan and the exact limit, so there's no guessing which cap you hit.
You can see where you stand any time under Settings→Plan. The usage meters track Tracks, Albums, and Tracklists against your limits. See Upgrade, downgrade & cancel.
Fix
Two honest options:
- Upgrade. Compare caps on the Plans page and switch from Settings→Plan→Switch plan. The new limit applies the moment Shopify confirms the charge. Then retry the creation.
- Make room. Delete (or archive, for items you may bring back) something you no longer sell, then retry. Archived state and what it means for the storefront is covered in Tracks.
If you hold a promo code that grants a plan unlock, redeem it first. See Promo codes.
Seeing errors when you're not at the limit?
If uploads or plan switches fail with a generic error while your meters show room to spare, that's not the cap working as designed. It's a fault. Note what the usage meters show, then contact support with a screenshot of Settings→Plan and the exact error text.
