Download links

How secure download links work, what the usage limit and expiry control, and how policy changes apply to new links.

Every delivered item comes with its own secure download link. This page explains how those links behave; the controls themselves live under SettingsDownload links and are documented field-by-field in the settings reference.

When an order is fulfilled, Tuneboom creates one download per purchased item. The link is a long random web address that no one can guess. Having the link is what grants the download, so there is no account or password for your customer to manage. The Download button in the delivery email and the links on the checkout downloads card all open the customer's hosted download page:

One link opens the whole order: every item, every licensed format, and the agreement PDF.

Any single item's code expands to the entire order, so a customer who kept one link can always recover everything they bought. The page shows no customer personal details.

Which formats appear (MP3, WAV, stems) depends on the license the customer bought. See How licensing works. Sound kits deliver as a single zip; albums bundle their tracks into a zip per format.

Limits and expiry

Each link is created with two settings, taken from SettingsDownload links at the moment of fulfillment:

  • Download limit: how many downloads the link serves before it stops. Once the count is reached, the link stops serving files. Check Unlimited downloads to remove the cap.
  • Link expiry: how many days the link stays live. After expiry the hosted page shows a polite "expired" message instead of downloads. Check Links never expire to keep links live indefinitely.

If you have never touched the settings, new links allow 3 downloads and never expire.

Policy changes are not retroactive

Limits and expiry are stamped onto each link when it is created. Changing the settings affects newly issued links only. Links already sent keep the policy they were created with. To refresh a customer's used-up or expired link, resend the delivery email from the order: see Managing orders.

Choosing sensible values

  • A low limit (the default 3) protects against links being shared publicly, at the cost of occasional resend requests from customers who re-download on multiple devices.
  • Expiry is your call between tidiness and support load: never-expiring links mean customers can always help themselves; a 30–90 day window pushes stragglers to contact you.
  • Exclusive and high-value sales often deserve Unlimited downloads with no expiry. The buyer paid for permanent access, and a dead link on a $500 sale is a support headache you don't want.

Work through A buyer can't find or use their download. It covers used-up limits, expired links, and the resend flow.
